Attollo Scholars Explore Higher Education Opportunities in Pittsburgh
When they say, “Pitt is legit,” it is no joke. Attollo scholars got to experience the city that bleeds black and gold in all facets, from taking in the city skyline to touring the various campuses. The yellow bridges added to the positive mindsets and attitudes each scholar strongly carried with them during their time.
Not only did students take on Western Pennsylvania, but they also made a stop in Central Pennsylvania visiting Penn State University. In doing so, students gained a holistic understanding of the endless educational opportunities offered right here in Pennsylvania. It would not have been a complete trip to Happy Valley without a stop for ice cream and getting lost a few times on the immense campus.
As students made their way to the great city of Pittsburgh, they jammed out and slept on the road trip. Luckily, our staff (our drivers) were always in high spirits, bringing energy each hour. In Pittsburgh, the Attollo Pitt Crew visited the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Chatham University, and Carnegie Mellon University.
Isaias Ortiz, Attollo Summer Intern and Pitt ‘26 said, "Being able to collaborate with Attollo to provide this experience for the students in a city I called home for the past two years was such a fulfilling opportunity for myself, seeing them thrive as they visited each school.”
Scholars noted the invaluable opportunity to envision themselves on different campuses. The universities visited had a wide span, including urban, suburban, and rural universities. Some students discovered they were city people, while others preferred the quietness of a small town.
Shiloh Harrill, Attollo Fellow, said, “This was my first time in Pittsburgh, and I absolutely loved it! I think it's a fantastic city to spend your college years in. The myriad of activities, sports, and restaurants is endless -- and so are the career advancement opportunities for college students and young professionals!”
Our signature event, the professional development dinner, exceeded all expectations. The dinner was hosted at McCormick and Schmick's, which served a phenomenal three-course meal with even more engaging conversations. Students learned from notable alumni and local leaders about the sectors of finance, engineering, technology, and consulting.
There are never quite enough words to explain the magic of Pittsburgh. Students explored the gorgeous scenery in a few of Pittsburgh’s 90 neighborhoods to get a feel for what may be home for the next four! The kindness of each tour guide, admission counselors, and people the Pitt Crew encountered provided hope and excitement for college.
